As low-maintenance as aluminium windows can be, you still need to look after them. Everyone has their own preference on how to clean and what products to use. However, we have created a mini guide for cleaning inspiration and how-to-tips.
The reason to maintain your aluminium windows is to prevent stiff springs, dirty frames and smudges on the glass. We recommend that you clean your windows at least once a month, but if they get dirtier more often, do it when necessary.
You will need;
- A Stiff Brush
- Vacuum Cleaner
- Glass Cleaner
- Penetrating Oil
- Car Wax
First of all, take the stiff brush and clean the surrounding areas of the aluminium windows. Pay attention to the window sashes; this is where dirt and grim accumulate.
Once the dirt is gone, follow up with the vacuum cleaner, which will pick up dust and grime from places where brush didn’t not reach.
Next, spray the spring locks to prevent stiffness. Use a lubricating/penetrating oil. Then take one cup of warm water and mild detergent, and use this mixture to scrub down the aluminium frames. This helps prevent from oxidation.
The next part depends on your personal preferences. Applying car wax in the aluminium frames will give them a sparkling clean and protect them from dirt and grim. You can also use a silicone lubricant to protect from corrosion, but only do this after you have properly cleaned them.
To leave the windows clean ad fresh, finish off by spraying ample glass cleaner onto the windows and using the newspaper to clean.
